A night-mooring near maple bridge is a seven-character quatrain written by Zhang Ji, a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty. The whole poem is as follows:
Frosty night,
Jiang Feng sleeps in the fire.
Hanshan Temple outside Gusu,
The midnight bell arrived at the passenger ship.
Translation:
The moon sets, crows crow, and the chill that attacks the bones and muscles pervades the middle of the night. I sadly sleep on the maple trees and fishing fires by the river. In the quiet Hanshan Temple outside Gusu City, the bell ringing in the middle of the night reached the passenger ship.
This is a poem about vagrancy. The poet described in detail the observation and feelings of a passenger ship night sleeper on the night scene in late autumn in the south of the Yangtze River, and outlined scenes such as the setting of the moon, frosty nights, fishing in the river, and solitary boat passengers. One is quiet and one is moving, the other is bright and the other is dark. The riverside is full of feelings. The collocation of scenery and the artistic conception of characters have reached a high degree of tacit understanding and blending, and * * has formed this artistic realm that has become a model for later generations.
